Cividale was visited by History from the beginning. It was chosen by the early Paleolithic populations, later Julius Caesar made it his Forum Julii, from which the whole Friuli will take its name. Then came the Lombards that imprinted the identity that it retains even today. Then it was the turn of the Carolingians, Patriarchs, Bishops, Venetians, in the end Napoleon rendered it to the Austrians to return Italian only at the end of the first world war … Cividale was able to collect something from all its visitors becoming a meeting point of different cultures and styles, making it more and more beautiful, until the Unesco consecrated it a world heritage site in 2011. It is home to many events amongst which the Mittelfest and the Palio of S. Donato.
